"Sonos Mineralis", 2023 von Anna-Lina Helsen

In Sonos Mineralis, various epochs of the earth are sonified and thus made tangible in a new way. With the help of the Natural History Museum of Karlsruhe, high-resolution images of a selection of cross-sections of different types of rock were taken. These are divided into grids and sonified with the help of software by assigning colour and tonal values. The resulting soundtracks reflect the circumstances of these rocks coming to the surface such as by sediment deposition or lava explosions in different epochs of our planet.

Variable orientations of the image plates regulate the volume, thusly allowing different images and soundtracks to be combined with one another. By rotating the image plates, viewers have the opportunity to interact with the installation and create their own soundscapes.
