Eye of the Dream, 2018

Commissioned by the Berliner Festspiele, Eye of the Dream encapsulates the creation of the universe. Beginning moments before the Big Bang, the video starts with the development of life and up to our modern world, travelling through billions of years of history. It is an immersive visual experience; a ballet choreographed by mathematics, generating beautifully complex and organic structures. It is variously dramatic and meditative, abstract and familiar, chaotic and ordered. Eye of the Dream evolved from David OReilly’s interactive work Everything, and draws from a library of objects he created over a fifteen-year period.

Today we are confronted with a constant influx of images and data, so much so that it has changed the way we communicate and the speed with which we consume information. As the idea of the smart city is gaining popularity all over the world and will inevitably affect our lifestyles at multiple levels, this work acts as an artistic comment on our ever-increasing thirst for information.
