The light art installation Kaskade was designed by the light artist, musician, and composer Rainer Kehres specifically for the façade of the Town Hall to mark Karlsruhe becoming a UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts.

The 99 globes installed in a matrix, which can be individually controlled, radiate with recurring light shows and messages from the balcony of the town hall into the city and the whole world.
