The light choreography Rondeau translates movement and rhythm into light and sound. The title refers to the historical form of poetry and music in which a motif repeats and changes along the way. This site-specific work in the Weinbrennersaal of the Karlsruhe Stadthalle invites visitors to immerse themselves in this dance.
In the space, pulses of light travel along the edges of the circular dome lights, creating the impression that they are rotating. Irregular movements, in turn, make them sway slightly. Color gradients, pulsing light and accents from the spotlights come together in an interplay of light, rhythm and space. Every visit to the installation is different, because the composition is assembled from ever-changing fragments.
The musician Szdåt accompanies the installation with a calm, generative composition. It consists of three acts that flow smoothly into one another and are complemented by a variety of other sounds. The sounds are linked to the lighting control and emphasize effects and color changes.
Rondeau premieres on 6 November 2026, marking the Stadthalle’s reopening at Messe Karlsruhe after its renovation.
