Neural Groove, 2016

ZEITGUISED is an artist collective that works at the intersection between art, design, and technology. Neural Groove depicts a digital animated realm in which narratives of color, shape, and pattern make inanimate objects come to life. The video is based on the understanding that synthetic shapes and constructions, created with human thought processes, rules and technology, can be just as complex as natural ones.

For aesthetic reasons the process of creating Neural Groove was controlled, but it was also open-ended. The development of simulated organic forms was influenced by technology production techniques, meaning that there was space for new forms to appear and the possibility of exploring uncharted territories.

The experiments resulted in a work in which two worlds coincide – one driven by technological possibilities and the other based on human rule. Synthetic spaces were produced in which ZEITGUISED invented rules and parameters that let those two formal worlds collide and interact and inform each other.

This collision echoes the mesh of contemporary urban physical and virtual spaces that constitute mechanisms that are constantly developing in their complexity.
