“Kino im Blauen Salon” wins second prize at the Cinematheque Network Cinema Award

30. October 2026

In 2026, Kino im Blauen Salon was once again honored with the Cinematheque Network Cinema Award in the category “Cinema That Looks Back,” receiving second prize. In 2024, the cinema won first prize in the same category.

Receiving this award again within three years recognizes the student-run cinema’s ongoing work with historical film formats, especially its 35 mm and 16 mm screenings. It also acknowledges the care taken to maintain analog projection technology, teach classic film projection skills, and the volunteer commitment of students and alumni.

Kino im Blauen Salon was founded in 2016 at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG) to provide regular film screenings and to make film tangible as an art form. Its program spans a broad range, from film classics to current productions to student work. Special events include the open-air cinema, semester programs, and extraordinary events and collaborations.

In 2024, the association “Kino im Blauen Salon e. V.” was founded to secure the long-term operation of the student cinema. Run by students and alumni, the association allows the cinema to operate independently and autonomously while staying connected to the HfG. Its work is supported by volunteer commitment and donations.
