UNESCO City of Media Arts supports Media Arts and international network projects in Karlsruhe
This year, the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Karlsruhe is inviting applications for funding media arts projects in 2022 for the third time. The deadline is April 20 2022 for creators of art and culture from Karlsruhe to apply for funding.
The funds are dedicated to artistic visions that reflect on contemporary and future social challenges utilizing the resources and tools of media art and which shed light on new points of view, technologies, or forms of media within the urban environment, and which represent a valuable asset in the wide field of media arts in Karlsruhe.
The current invitation supports innovative, cooperative, and interdisciplinary media art productions on a local level, plus projects that serve the intensification of international networking, exchanges, and collaboration within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) in the field of Media Arts.
Since 2020, the City of Karlsruhe enables local artists, creators in culture and the media, and initiatives and institutions to develop and realize projects in the field of media art, for which in 2022 it is providing a budget of 100,000 Euro. Students from the fifth semester upward with corresponding project ideas are also eligible to participate, as well as scientific and creative economy facilities in Karlsruhe.
The successful projects will be selected by an expert panel consisting of representatives of the Baden Art Association, the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG), the Cultural Office of the City of Karlsruhe, the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe, and the ZKM Karlsruhe that is chaired by the head of the Cultural Office Dominika Szope. It is planned to announce the results in June 2022.
On Tuesday, March 1, 2022, from 2–3 p.m., the Cultural Office is offering a digital question time about the current project funding program and the application process. Registration for this event, plus all other information on applying online and concerning the conditions of participation are available at: https://bit.ly/2MwcvFY
In 2019, the City of Karlsruhe was designated a UNESCO City of Media Arts and it is a member of the global UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN). As a well-connected and networked city of media arts, Karlsruhe supports the local media art scene not only with respect to project funding, but also with presentations and events, plus joint ventures on an international basis.
