Fragile Homes takes as its starting point a universal experience: the bureaucratic exhaustion that sets in when administrative control permeates every aspect of life. The winning project of the dm-Award “connecting worlds” by Yulia Mashkova and Grisha Mumrikov asks what belonging means – beyond certificates and categories.
Their work centres on a single material: paper. It carries the traces of power, yet it is born from the forest. Part of the project is a video mapping presented as part of the Schlosslichtspiele Light Festival, tracing the connection between human exhaustion and the loss of nature.
In the garden of Prinz-Max-Palais stand the Public Bureaucracy Composites: sculptures made from recycled administrative paper, created in an open workshop with Karlsruhe residents. As visitors approach, light and sound are activated. Belonging is meant to arise through experience – no proof required.
