The audiovisual spatial installation Echo einer Ordnung [Echo of an Order] engages with Friedrich Weinbrenner’s (1766–1826) connection between architecture and city, revealing traces of the past within today’s church interior.
The installation understands the Protestant Stadtkirche on the Marktplatz as part of Friedrich Weinbrenner’s larger architectural vision: axes, lines, and verticals that condense into pilasters, arches, and coffers until the interior opens toward the Marktplatz and Karlsruhe’s fan-shaped city plan. The work is devoted to Weinbrenner’s architecture, turning its attention to the present-day traces left by his urban order.
During the daytime, the work can be seen on LED screens. As dusk falls, a projection unfolds within the church space.
