Installed on living trees in the Palace Garden, 555 Hz translates global deforestation data into sound. Each metronome beats at a different rhythm, calculated from satellite data on forest loss. Every beat represents trees disappearing at this very moment.
If all felled trees could be heard simultaneously, they would no longer form a rhythm – they would merge into a single, continuous tone. That tone is currently 555 Hz, and rising.
The work draws on satellite imagery to make a crisis tangible that is vast in scale yet largely invisible. It gives abstract loss a monument that can be felt in the body and experienced in time.
