Chiharu Koda

Chiharu Koda (Okayama, Japan) is a media artist based in Karlsruhe, Germany. She grew up in a region with a long ceramic tradition and studied industrial design with a focus on ceramic design at Okayama Prefectural University. In 2012, she received the one-year Shu-Ou Foundation scholarship and traveled through Europe. She later studied sculpture at the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe, where she graduated in 2021 as a Meisterschülerin.

In her artistic practice, Koda combines materials such as wood, concrete, or ecological plastic made from Rhine and rainwater with digital technologies including AI, sensors, and motors. Her installations reveal hidden layers of information and open spaces where the natural and the artificial quietly converge – a poetic reflection on the relationship between human, material, and environment in the age of technology.
