Open Call for Embrace Platform

30. October 2021 — 26. November 2021

Deadline for applications: November 26th, 2021

The regional Open Call will take place in the context of the first edition of Embrace, an exhibition that will be on show at the Badischer Kunstverein Karlsruhe from February to April 2022. Embrace is a mobile platform for interdisciplinary cultural and artistic exchange that aims to promote national and international exchange and cooperation on the topic of gender equality and non-binary identities. Embrace Platform was founded by Kerstin Möller and Karolina Sobel in 2020.

Embrace is committed to gender equality and the normalisation of non-binary gender identities in Germany, Poland and Europe. The focus is on cultural, artistic and civic exchange on LGBTQIA+ and women’s rights, gender equality and forms of peaceful resistance in times of fake news, toxic masculinity and hate. Embrace aims to provide a platform on which European partnerships and cooperation can develop long term. This exchange strives to contribute to the visibility of FLINTA, LGBTQIA+ and drag artists and gender equality in Germany, Poland and Europe. Embrace builds bridges between cities and neighbouring countries. It brings together a variety of media arts such as: video works, photography, sound installations, performances, concerts and workshops.

For the Open Call we are looking for a total of 2-3 media art works that identify with the above-mentioned themes (gender equality and/or non binary identity) and/or refer to them, and that can become part of exhibition Embrace at the Badischer Kunstverein Karlsruhe. The works must have already been produced and should be able to work as part of a group exhibition. Please send only one work per application / applicant.

Applications are open to freelance artists who work and live in Karlsruhe or have a connection to Karlsruhe.
