Becoming a Wikipedia author, as well as providing a platform for media artists? Interested participants will be given these opportunities in a workshop at the ZKM on February 24.

Wikipedia is considered an important source of information on the internet and offers unlimited access to knowledge of all kinds. In order to strengthen the visibility of media artists online, the ZKM is offering a workshop on the topic of “Making media artists visible! A Wikipedia edit-a-thon”. The aim of the course is to teach the basics of working with Wikipedia and to write more than 500 Wikipedia articles about media artists.

The workshop begins with short lectures on the topic:

  • What is media art?
  • Writing in Wikipedia: How does it work?
  • How can I use AI tools to create biographies?

With the previous project “Media Art on Wikipedia”, in which information on numerous artists was fed into Wikipedia, and the knowledge gained in the first part, the participants are sent off to the creative part of the workshop. With the help of experienced Wikipedia authors and ZKM employees, the participants will receive technical and content-related support.
The final results will be summarized on a Wikipedia dashboard page; participants will also have the opportunity to add their name to the project page.

Requirements: You should enjoy researching and writing as well as having your own laptop.
Catering will be provided.
