International Weeks against Racism

15. March 2026 — 29. March 2026

The International Day against Racism is celebrated annually on March 21 and was proclaimed by the United Nations in 1966. In Karlsruhe, it is accompanied by the International Weeks against Racism (IWgR), involving over 40 associations, initiatives, organizations, and individuals.

The common goal is to draw greater attention to work that is critical of racism. The topic of racism must be permanently on the agenda of city society so that people are sensitized and mobilized against racism. These weeks make a contribution to this.

The IWgR 2026 will be opened on March 15 at the Evangelical City Church Karlsruhe, as part of the presentation of the installation THE CAGE by the Iraqi artist Fahar Al-Salih, who lives in Karlsruhe. Welcoming remarks will be given by Dr. Frank Mentrup, Mayor of Karlsruhe, and Claudia Rauch, Pastor of the Evangelical Church. The introduction will be by Ana-Rosa Lopez, IWgR 2026 organizing team. This will be followed by a conversation/performance with Fahar Al-Salih. More information about THE CAGE can be found here.
