The Upper Rhine region around Karlsruhe has a long history of paper production, printing and photography that depends on local water management. The Rhine, one of the world’s busiest waterways, harbours the largest groundwater reservoir in Europe: small rivers rise in the plain, many quarry ponds are filled with groundwater and branches of the Rhine are protected. Nevertheless, the region is suffering from increasing drought and pollution due to a lack of sustainability and quality in water management and as a result of climate change.
The group exhibition Hydromedia – Seeing with Water presents works by five international artists who are currently developing experimental artistic methods in collaboration with nature as part of the Creative Europe Project of the same name in order to raise awareness of ecological water management. The exhibition with Alina Schmuch, Luiz Zanotello, Jiajia Qi, Arja Hop & Peter Svenson was created in cooperation with the HfG Karlsruhe.
