Apply now for the media art scholarship at studio hö

24. February 2026 — 20. April 2026

For the second time, the UNESCO City of Media Arts Karlsruhe (UCCoMA) and the Hoepfner Stiftung are awarding a scholarship of over €6,000 for a period of six months for studio hö. studio hö is a production and exhibition space primarily used for the creation and presentation of media art works and projects. In addition, events and workshops are regularly held in the main space.

The call for applications is aimed at media artists who live and work in Karlsruhe and the region. Persons who are enrolled at a university at the start of the scholarship (by June 15, 2026) or are in a training programme are excluded. We are looking for innovative, cooperative and interdisciplinary ideas for media art projects – preferably in collaboration with other media art cities or artists from the UNESCO Creative Cities network – that will be exhibited at studio hö during the scholarship period.

In addition to the provision of a workspace and exhibition space in studio hö on the ground floor of Kaiserstr. 3, the grant includes 6,000 € spread over 6 months and a production fee of an additional 3,000 €. The scholarship holders commit to presenting their work during the Media art is here exhibition (August 13–September 13, 2026) as well as in a final showcase within the scholarship period.

The media art scholarship is designed as a self-directed work and presentation format. The scholarship recipients are responsible for the conceptual, organizational, and practical execution of the exhibitions independently—from planning and installation to supervision during opening hours. UCCoMA provides support with public relations, while the Hoepfner Stiftung offers organizational advice, though the primary responsibility remains with the recipients.

Due to the scope of the presentations, applications from artist groups or collectives are explicitly welcome. Joint applications can help share responsibilities while also opening up expanded opportunities for collaboration, division of labor, and collective practice within the scholarship.

An expert jury will select the recipients of the scholarship from the applications submitted.

Applications can only be submitted via the online application form. Please note the current guidelines before submitting your application. The guidelines are available here (only in German).

Application deadline is Tuesday, April 20, 12:00 CET.

Please send any questions about the application process by e-mail to: daniela.burkhardt@kultur.karlsruhe.de.
