For the first time in Europe, the ZKM | Karlsruhe presents a comprehensive overview of the complete works of the Brazilian artist, dancer and choreographer Analivia Cordeiro, who is one of the international pioneers of video and computer art. Since the early 1970s, she has been exploring the relationships between the body, movement, visual and audiovisual art, and media art.
As a transdisciplinary artist, Analivia Cordeiro’s work focuses on human body movement in a wide variety of contexts, from dance to computer graphics to sculpture. In the exhibition curated by Claudia Giannetti, the combination of performativity and technology gives rise, for example, to web-based productions or interactive installations. The exhibition therefore explicitly invites visitors to re-experience their own body dances in space through a dance motion capture app developed by the artist.
The exhibition is part of the program series Female Perspectives dedicated to female positions in Media Art. The artists are Soun-Gui Kim, Marijke van Warmerdam, Analivia Cordeiro and Ulrike Rosenbach.
The opening will take place on 27 January 2023 at 7:00 p.m. in the foyer. The artist Analivia Cordeiro will be present on the opening night.
