As part of the city transformation, the area opposite Karlsruhe’s Stephanplatz will become a stage for diverse activities and encounters in the summer of 2025. With a creative program of workshops, performances, and events, this public space will be reactivated—open, inclusive, and inviting.
At the heart of this initiative is the interdisciplinary art installation FLORA MOMENTUM by Hannah Cooke, Jannik Lang, and Norina Quinte, on view at Stephanplatz for the duration of the district impulse. Central to the installation are the lenticular images Postbotanical Proliferations by Hannah Cooke, which use artificial intelligence to generate visionary healing plants—inspired by traditional species such as turmeric, garlic, or ginkgo. These hybrid creations shift between natural and organic forms, revealing new, at times alien-like structures depending on the viewer’s perspective.
The installation invites visitors to reimagine urban space as a site of healing, reflection, and community—poetic, technological, and visionary. At the same time, FLORA MOMENTUM serves an urban design function: the artistic intervention aims to make the connection between southern Waldstraße, Stephanplatz, and Ludwigsplatz more visible, enhancing the public space both visually and atmospherically. With integrated seating elements, the installation also offers a place to linger and rest.
The work was conceived by the Karlsruhe- and Berlin-based artist collective ato.
