OK-Lab Karlsruhe

Open Knowledge Foundation Deutschland e.V. is the German branch of the Open Knowledge Foundation, a global network of activists, developers, policy specialists and researchers who work to promote open knowledge and open data.
At a regional level, these questions are addressed in so-called OK Labs. The OK Lab in Karlsruhe focuses on improving opportunities for local citizens to get involved in the life of their city, which contributes to strengthening democratic structures as a whole.
As part of the »Open Codes« exhibition shown at ZKM, the OK Lab also ran a series of workshops on algorithms, data and electronics, which are central elements of media art. Finally, in the context of Karlsruhe’s candidature to be designated as a UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts, we are planning further events of this type, for example a digital creative workshop together with ZKM called »Spacecraft« and more »Transparenzcafes« (transparency cafés) on local urban data.
