Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HsKA) stands out with the high level of practice orientation in its research and teaching as well as its technical know-how. The aim is to, with practice-oriented curricula, get students excited about technology and to allow for technology to become tangible. The University's expertise at the interfaces of (media) art and technology is primarily located at the Faculty of Information Management & Media. Here students are taught interdisciplinary skills in the areas of language and communication, design/visualization, IT, natural sciences and technology in innovative study and teaching formats. In order to offer students the best possible development opportunities, the HsKA maintains contacts with regional and international players and is constantly expanding this network. In addition, cooperations with media art actors across the globe offer the opportunity to initiate media art projects and to realize them in the city and region of Karlsruhe.
Technology meets art: 3D ceramic printing
In cooperation with the Staatliche Majolika Manufaktur Karlsruhe GmbH and the Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe, in 2018 the HsKA implemented a project that continues today: A 3D printer is modified in such a way that it produces artistic ceramics in an automated additive production process. The production of such »works of art in technical serial production« is already being staged in the media via livestream, and in the period 2019-2022 artists are invited to send their designs to the majolica and watch them being printed in 3D via camera.
