City to City wins international award

The City to City project won the "Best International Project" award from the Italian Fondazione Santagata. It is a new award realized by the Fondazione Santagata, one of the most important Italian foundations dedicated to cultural innovation as a factor of economic development, and Rome Museum Exhibition, a professional and international platform for institutions operating in arts and culture. The prize seeks to give visibility and recognition to projects within the UNESCO territory that present themselves as a driving force for sustainable development in the cultural, economic and community environment, and that are in line with the goals set out in the United Nations 2030 agenda, promoting the active involvement of communities and building collaborative networks.

Media Art City Karlsruhe actively involved in the project

Created in 2020 by UNESCO's Creative Cities Network for Media Arts, City to City emerged as a response to the pandemic to support artists in their difficult period of inactivity and to combine sustainable development with artistic creation. City to City offers the selected artists a three-month artistic collaboration at an international level. Under the motto PLAY! the successful project was continued in 2021 as a cooperation of 14 media art cities of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

City to City collaborative artistic creation support program is aimed at artists from member cities of UNESCO's Creative Cities Network for Media Arts and aims to develop new artistic works conceived remotely, based on digital platforms. In parallel, it also seeks to strengthen cooperation between the cities of the cluster of Creative Cities of UNESCO in the field of Media Arts.

The artists Sarah Degenhardt and Gerardo Nolasco-Rózsás were selected from Karlsruhe in 2020 for City to City: Human Responsibility. Sarah Degenhardt developed an artistic work in collaboration with Portuguese artist João Carlos Pinto from Braga. The multidisciplinary artist Gerardo Nolasco-Rózsás collaborated with the Mexican artist Paris Díaz from Guadalajara. For the second edition in 2021, Meiyan Chen was selected, who is currently developing an artistic work with artists from the UNESCO Creative Cities of Austin (USA) and York (UK).
