LIMBO, 2020-2021

The audiovisual installation LIMBO is a one-shot-trip through experiences of landscapes in digital and abstract space. By means of fluctuating between micro and macro perspectives, the artwork addresses the relationship between humans, nature, and the Earth. The stylistic usage of extremely long shots points out that environmental changes are often not easy to perceive but they are ongoing and virtually irreversible. These images are also a complete contrast to the rapid images we experience daily when in contact with digital media. Designed as a large format projection that extends over the corner of a shop window, its visual layers plus the explorations of binaural beats and specific frequencies merge together in an experience that, for the viewers, is physical.

Supported by the City to City: Human Responsibility initiative of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network Media Arts Cluster. A project of the UNESCO City of Media Arts cities Karlsruhe and Braga.

Sarah Degenhardt, born 1992 in Memmingen, Germany, grew up in a remote area in the foothills of the Alps. She studied Fine Arts in Karlsruhe (DE), La Réunion (FRA) and Paris (FRA). Experiences of landscape, nature and their influence on humans and their habitus are the breeding ground and initial moment of her works. In the course of the working process she transforms them into densely reduced images which find their translation in audiovisual multi-channel installations, paper works and sculptures. Spatial mannerisms, points of reference and where everything tilts are the elements and moments that interest her continuously, luring the visitors into a fold of space-time, where everything is being tipped over to be rearranged anew. She was represented in exhibitions internationally, among them Germany, France and Iceland.
